Enfield Council’s Leader, Cllr Ergin Erbil, met new residents of Pipistrelle House, a 41 home affordable housing block located in the transformative Meridian Water regeneration area (5 December).

Residents have been moving in since the end of August 2024 and they join hundreds of other people now calling Meridian Water their home.

The Leader spent time talking with residents and exploring the new development which is home to a mixture of private, shared ownership, affordable and council housing.

The arrival of the new residents into Pipistrelle House brings the total amount of homes delivered by Enfield Council and its partner Vistry to more than 200.

The first phase of Meridian One in Meridian Water is set to finish next year completing 301 homes, the first of 10,000 homes coming to this landmark regeneration area.

Meridian Water is situated in Edmonton, Enfield, and is one of the most deprived areas in England. Enfield Council’s ambitious project is helping to tackle the unequal challenges the community faces by creating new opportunities for everyone.

As well as 192 affordable homes, the project has delivered hundreds of jobs, construction skills courses, multi-million-pound social value schemes and apprenticeships for local people with many more projects to be delivered in the coming years.

The Leader of Enfield Council, Cllr Ergin Erbil, said: “I am from Edmonton and I am committed to investing in Edmonton. Meridian Water is the beacon that keeps on giving back, offering more than just new homes. We are championing better living standards for those most in need.

“The high-quality homes being delivered at Meridian Water are a leading example of how a local authority, with the support from central government, can create more and better homes in good neighbourhoods for its residents.”

Meridian One’s successful delivery coincides with Meridian Water’s other projects which are progressing at pace such as the £195 million Strategic Infrastructure Works (SIW) which will unlock the land for thousands of new homes, community facilities, the creation of two new parks and a public riverside.

In addition, the Enfield Construction Skills Academy (ECSA) which opened in 2023, has provided construction skill courses to almost 500 learners.

Unique learning opportunities have been provided by both projects. Apprenticeship schemes are available at the SIW through Enfield Council’s partner Taylor Woodrow and construction skills courses are on offer at the ECSA, located next to a live construction site.

The Leader met with the apprentices and learners at the ECSA and heard firsthand about how Meridian Water’s educational opportunities are catalysing their career progression.

The Leader of Enfield Council, Cllr Ergin Erbil, meets Pipistrelle House resident Ms Olaribigbe in the Meridian One Podium Garden, Meridian Water, Edmonton.
